Below are PASCAL programs for calculating the best attainable match for spatial ecological distributions of presence/absence and abundance, described here. The software may be distributed freely. Programs are written in Sun PASCAL and have been tested under operating systems SunOS 4 and 5 (Solaris 1 and 2) for UNIX. The programs are untested on other systems. The programs are presented as zipped tar files and may be extracted under UNIX with the commands gunzip and tar -xvf.

• binary.tar.gz: best attainable match for distributions of binary (presence/absence) data.
• counts.tar.gz: minimum attainable distance for abundance data.
