Introducing Data Analysis in the Schools: Who Should Teach It and How?

ISI Round Table Conference
Held in August 1992 in Lennoxville, Quebec, Canada
Edited by Lionel Pereira-Mendoza
Published by: International Statistical Institute, 1993
ISBN 90-73592-08-9, 242 pages, soft cover.

The papers in these Proceedings demonstrate that the responses to such possibilities are as varied as the social, cultural, and economic backgrounds of those who respond. In some countries the penetration of statistical ideas into the school programme is relatively deep, while in others these ideas are barely mentioned. The papers discuss the divergent perspectives of the conference participants, reflect on the pervasive nature of data analysis and help to stimulate discussion and clarify the important role that statistical ideas can have in the school curriculum.

Training Teachers to Teach Statistics

ISI Round Table Conference

Held from 23 to 27 July 1988 in Budapest, Hungary
Edited by: Anne Hawkins

Published by International Statistical Institute (with UNESCO), 1990
ISBN 90-73592-01-1, 308 pages, hard cover
These Proceedings contain insights into both the training of statistics teachers and also recent developments in methodology and materials for teaching statistics. The delegates included curriculum experts, teachers, researchers, and key personnel from statistical education and teacher-training projects from all parts of the globe. A number of delegates from the developing countries provided their own insights into the specific difficulties that they have experienced, as well as suggesting strategies to overcome them. By including not only the keynote papers but also the comments and interchanges that these provoked, the proceedings preserve much of the spontaneity and informality of the original sessions.
