World Statistics Congresses of the ISI: These are the main conferences of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and occur every 2 years. IASE organises statistics education sessions at each ISI congress. The last, ISI 2011, was held in Dublin, Ireland, 21-26 August, 2011.The 2009 WSC, ISI 57, was held in Durban, South Africa in August 2009. Seven Invited Paper Sessions (IPS) and five special IPS for the Youth theme, proposed by IASE have been approved by the ISI Scientific Program Committee. IASE Satellite Conferences: These are themed conferences held immediately before the ISI World Statistics Congresses. The most recent (18-19 August 2011), Statistics Education and Outreach , was held in Malahide, a coastal township near Dublin city, Ireland. The previous one, Next Steps in Statistics Education, was held in Durban, South Africa in August 2009 prior to ISI 57. In 2013, the satellite will be held in Macao, 22-24 August, with the theme 'Statistics Education for Progress', and with the special sub-theme on 24th August of 'Statistics Education for Progress: Youth and Official Statistics'. The first two days will feature papers proposed by IASE while the third day will involve representatives of IAOS as well as IASE. IASE Round Tables: These are small workshop conferences which bring together a select international group of experts to address a particular theme and to make recommendations from which institutions and individuals engaged in statistical education and training (in developed and developing countries) may benefit. The next Round Table Technology in Statistics Education: Virtualities and Realities will be held in Cebu City, Philippines, 2-6 July, 2012. The most recent Round Tables are Statistics Education in School Mathematics: Challenges for Teaching and Teacher Education held in July 2008 in Monterrey, Mexico (a component of the joint ICMI/IASE Study on this topic) and Curricular Development in Statistics Education held in Sweden in 2004. IASE Round Tables are held immediately before the 4-yearly ICME conferences. International Congresses in Mathematical Education (ICME): IASE also organises a suite of statistics education sessions at each ICME conference; see Study Group 13 and Study Group 14 at ICME 11 in Mexico in July 2008. International Research Forum on Statistical Reasoning, Thinking and Literacy, SRTL: The SRTL series of biennial forums bring together researchers working in the fields of statistical reasoning, thinking and literacy. While not run by IASE itself, the SRTL series is organised and run by long-term mainstays of IASE. The last, SRTL 6, was held in Brisbane, Australia in July 2009. IASE periodically provides support, advice and people to assist with other conferences around the world which are addressing or including statistics education themes Updated by: Christopher John Wild on Jan 17 2011 » Back to the top |
