CALL FOR VOLUNTARY ISLP PAGE COORDINATORS IS IN ACTION

Editing and updating ISLP web pages is one of the main tasks of the ISLP action plan for this period. Therefore, we are restructuring the web pages around four main topics (some of them are then subdivided in other topics), as you can see from the list at the end of this message.

To complete this task we are now looking for volunteers that will act as ISLP page coordinators. These ISLP page coordinators will be in charge of editing and updating one (or more) of these topics. If you are interested in being an ISLP page coordinator, please contact us before the end of September.

Evaluation of current ISLP web pages a)ISLP web resources Feb 2010−June 2010 Evaluation of the contents of the pages and contacting the page coordinators; draft for further development possibilities to be discussed by the advisory board. First processing during ICOTS8 after which further actions will be decided upon. Shared responsibility by ISLP executive and a nominee of IAOS (statistical office: training and projects) University Trainee Ingaliina Seppä/Statistics Finland designed and made a questionnaire to gather ideas for developing the ISLP web pages.

Proposal* for National and international statistical literacy competitions spring 2010 Nature of competition to be decided and proposal developed. Once proposal accepted, meeting at ICOTS8 to determine practical arrangements and timetable. ISLP executive, advisory board, members of the Council of country coordinators by advisory board, (Lead by ISLP executive) ISI The ISLP competition 2010−2011 started at the Autumn 2010 and closed in June 2011. University Trainees Ingaliina Seppä and Jukka Sireni / Statistics Finland prepared competition rules, judging citeria, registration form, competition announcement, teacher’s notes, coordinator’s notes and guidelines for making posters. Pedro Campos designed logo for the ISLP competition and Sharleen Forbes edited all competition materials. Statistics Finland took care for the registrations. Stephen Cope prepared the competititon platform and helped to load the posters. Judging jury was nominated: Martha Alliaga, USA (chair), Iddo Gal, Chris Wild, Christine Reading, Metka Zalatel and Enriqueta Reston. James Nicholsson and Iddo Gal prepared the poster competition display to the ISI2011. http://www.stat.auckland.ac.nz/~iase/islp/competition-second. The ISLP Competition 2012−2013 will start in September 2012.
Formulating the ISLP strategy with the general aim of contributing to statistical literacy across the world, among young and adults, in all phases of life. 2010 ISLP executive and advisory board (Lead by Reija Helenius) Council of country coordinators Work is in progress during 2012.
