The competition took place at the Escola Superior de Ciencias Empresariales de Valença (IPVC), Av. Miguel Dantas, Auditorio Porf. Doutor Abilio Lima de Carvalho.

It started with an Introduction by Professor Florbela Correia, Presidente do Conselho Executivo de IPVC, who talked to students about what statiticians do and careers in Statistics, as well as what the Escola Superior does to train students in Statistics. Present also was Joao Paulo Torre Vieito, VicePresidente do Conselho Executivo de IPVC.

The competition was very well attended by parents, friends and teachers of the students who participated. Helping the ISLP execute the competition were Balbina Lisboa and Claudia Gomez, graduate students of University do Minho.

There were 4 teams participating in the competition, all of them from Escola EB2,3 de Valença, at the level of Escola Basica.

There was an intermission at the competition, where students, parents, friends and teacher got to mingle while taking some refreshments, catered by the Escola Superior de Ciencias Empresariales de Valença (IPVC),

At the conclusion of the competition, all students received prizes donated by our sponsors, and a certificate of participation. The winning team received an additional prize and got to attend the final on August 18th in Guimaráes. The Presidente do Conselho Executivo de Escola EB2,3 de Valença Ângela Evangelista, then thanked the students and the teacher for their efforts during the summer to prepare the students for this competition.

The teacher that trained all these students was Deolinda Manuela Soto Agra, que lecciona a disciplina de Matemática na Escola EB2,3 de Valença. We see her here in the picture.
