Statistics Teachers' Day
NCEA 2011: Hitting the ground running

Tamaki Campus, University of Auckland (Map)

Thursday 2 December 2010

Rationale

The main part of the 2010 Statistics Teachers' Day will build on the work done in last year's Statistics Teachers' Day -- key ideas for inferential reasoning when comparing box plots and activities to promote students' ability to draw inferential conclusions taking sampling variability into account.

Modelled on role plays from last year, some of your colleagues will present stories about introducing Year 9, 10, and 11 students to inferential reasoning in plenary session two. They will share teaching and learning experiences that help facilitate students' understanding of "making a call"; frameworks that assist verbalisation of reasoning; activities that promote understanding of population distributions; and at Year 11 stories of how students begin to take sample size into account when "making a call."
