OF THE STATISTICAL RESEARCH AND TRAINING CENTER
THE PHILIPPINE


The Training Programs of SRTC are designed to develop statistical competencies of government and private agencies or individuals seeking the necessary and comprehensive understanding of statistical methods and processes. Other training programs in statistics and allied fields are also conducted upon request.

1.       EFFECTIVE USE OF MICROSOFT EXCEL AND POWERPOINT FOR STATISTICAL REPORTS
Examines in depth the capabilities of Excel as spreadsheet package and Power Point as graphics and presentation software package. Underscores the effective presentation of statistical reports using Microsoft excel and PowerPoint software. 
Duration:       36 Hours/5 Days
Course Requirement: Computer literate

2.      DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS

     Deals with the methods of collecting, organizing, presenting and summarizing data. It involves the organization of set of data into tables, graphs or charts, and other relevant data summarization techniques. It makes the presentation of statistical information more meaningful and easy to understand.

3.      STATISTICAL METHODS FOR RESEARCH
Provides familiarity with statistical methods that present order into attempts to make conclusions from the evidence provided by the samples. It covers introduction to statistical concepts, descriptive statistical measures, basic probability concepts, the normal distribution, basic sampling techniques, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, simple linear regression and correlation analysis.
Duration: 36 Hours/5 Days

4.      WEBPAGE DEVELOPMENT FOR STATISTICAL DISSEMINATION
Encourages participants to learn the power of webpage and eventually use it as tool for statistical dissemination.

Course Requirement: Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

 

5.      STATISTICAL REPORT WRITING
Teaches the mechanics of technical writing as applied to statistics and how these can be crafted to suit a variety of readers. This course will encourage participants to improve the presentation of statistical reports through available computer software combined with better skills when composing said reports.

6.      Data Processing and Tabulation using Integrated Microcomputer Processing System (IMPS)
Teaches the mechanics of processing the data from the data collection form into the computer accurately and in a timely fashion. Covers the concepts on data file structure, data capture, editing the data file, tabulating the data, disseminating the data, and final evaluation using the free computer software package, Integrated Microcomputer Processing System (IMPS). Participants will be provided with this free computer package after completion of the training program.

Course Requirement:  Background in computer programming or logic formulation
 

 7.  DATABASE MANAGEMENT USING MS ACCESS
Introduces the participants to the essential capabilities of MS Access as a package for creating database and eventually learns the basics of database management systems and specifically the commands within MS Access. 
Duration:      36 Hours/5 Days
Course Requirement: Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

8.      PROCESSING AND ANALYSIS OF ADMINISTRATIVE RECORDS

Teaches the participants with the methods and procedures of processing data from administrative records for statistical data generation and analysis. Basic concepts on limitations and assessment of administrative data quality, as well as indices that may be generated from these data shall be covered.

9.      DESIGN AND OPERATION OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC SURVEYS (Statistical Data Management)
Addresses the need to develop a reliable design of questionnaire and a systematic, well-planned data gathering and processing procedures. This course will enable participants to minimize errors and observe standard operational practices when conducting actual survey. 
Duration:       56 Hours/8 Days
Course Requirement:  Knowledge of descriptive statistics
 

10.    ADVANCED DATABASE MANAGEMENT USING MS ACCESS
Examines in depth the capabilities of MS Access. Through extensive exercises, the participants will learn the advanced feature of this relational database package.
Duration:      36 Hours/5 Days
Course Requirement:  Database Management using MS Access
 

11. EFFECTIVE STATISTICAL PRESENTATION SKILLS
The course is ideal for trainers, statisticians and other personnel who are involved in statistical presentations. It focuses on oral and written presentation of statistical results.
Duration:      36 Hours/5 Days
Course Requirement:  Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

12.  STATISTICS FOR PROJECT MONITORING AND EVALUATION
Covers monitoring and evaluation concepts, research design for impact assessment, indicators for monitoring and evaluation, survey designs, statistical methods for data analysis.

       Duration:      56 Hours/8 Days
Course Requirement:  Knowledge of Basic statistical concepts

 

13.    STATISTICAL PROJECTION & FORECASTING TECHNIQUES

Enables decision makers to plan for the future by making forecasts and predictions using the classical and modern approaches. To be covered are moving average method, exponential smoothing, and ARIMA modeling. 
Duration:  36 Hours/5 Days
Course Requirement: Knowledge of regression analysis

 

14.    DATABASE MANAGEMENT USING MS VISUAL BASIC

       Encourages participants to create a simple Windows based application using event-driven programming methods of the MS Visual Basic.

Duration:  36 Hours/5 Days

Course Requirement:  Logic formulation and basic programming concepts

 

15.    STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES FOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC DATA ANALYSIS

Design to give a comprehensive introduction to methods and models for the analysis of categorical data and their application in social science research.

Duration:      36 Hours/5 Days
Course Requirement:  Knowledge of basic statistical concepts

 

16.    STATISTICS FOR LOCAL DEVELOPMENT PLANNING

       Provides for a more effective and efficient planning using the population and development approach. Focus on the analysis of indicators and its impact on planning.

17.    ECONOMETRIC MODELING

Encourages participants to appreciate how economic data arising from measurement of variables become interesting if relationship are established between them, It is enhanced further by making predictions from the value of one dependent variable given the values of one or more independent variables,

18.    ADVANCED DATABASE MANAGEMENT USING MS VISUAL BASIC

This is a visual programming course for those who have taken the basic knowledge in Visual Basic - interactive and basic programming.

Course Requirement: Knowledge of MS Visual Basic

 

19.    Sampling Design for Surveys

Focuses on the basic requirement in the conduct of surveys. The course permits the study of characteristics and relationships through a scientific selection of part of a population to represent the whole population. It emphasizes the significant advantages offered by sample survey in terms of timeliness and reduced costing collecting certain types of data.
