Bio Flavia Jolliffe lectured in statistics for most of her working life. She retired from full-time employment in August 2002 but continues to be active in many professional activities. This includes having the title and status of honorary lecturer in statistics at the University of Kent at Canterbury in the UK. She has been interested in statistics education as a discipline since the mid nineteen-seventies and has had papers published in this field regularly in either journals or as conference proceedings since 1976. She has participated in all six of the International Conferences on Teaching Statistics, and in two Round Tables. She has written three books, including Teaching Statistical Concepts (with co-authors Anne Hawkins and Leslie Glickman) which was published by the Longman Group in 1992. In 1993 she started an education column in RSS News, the newsletter of the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) and compiled this until 1998, and she was on the board of the Journal of Statistical Education from 1996-9. She has served on the education committee of the RSS, chaired the RSS education section from 1999 to 2002, and has been a member of IASE since its foundation. She is also involved with activities of the RSS Centre for Statistical Education.
