Statistics Teachers' Day 2007

Using Technology to Teach Year 13 Statistics

Murray Black, AUT

This workshop will provide teachers of Year 13 Statistics with some resources to use in the teaching of confidence intervals, correlation and regression. We will share labs that we have developed for our pre-degree students. These labs place more emphasis on the understanding of statistical concepts leaving the technology to perform the calculations. Also we will focus on real data sets which provide a context for the various interpretations and conclusions. Emphasis will be placed on the linkages of the topics to an overall theme and how we can encourage our students to write about statistical concepts and relate them to a problem under investigation.
